Restoration and Conservation

Conservation is the application of chemistry and technique to reinforce a book in its current state while preventing future damage. These preventative measures stabilize the book and extend its lifespan. Conservation treatments often include deacidification, leather reinforcement, leather repair, and cleaning.

Restoration is the process of repairing books for use while preserving its identity. A book restoration may include rebinding, mending, spine reattachment, leather rejuvenation, restitching, and more.
